Edric Poitier

A native of Nassau, Bahamas, Coach Poitier enters his third season at the helm of the Lady Blues Volleyball and Softball Programs. Last year's Volleyball team posted a 14-16 overall record on the season, a very much improved team from the previous years of winless season. In Coach Poitier's first softball season, the program reached the most wins in a season in quite a long time. Coach Poitier is poised to take both programs to new heights.

He is certainly no stranger to coaching, as a Student/ Head Coach, Poitier led the Falcons of St. Augustine’s University to four (4) consecutive CIAA championships in five years from 2000-2003, and three (3) NCAA regional appearances, advancing to the 2nd round in 2002. During his five year tenure as the Falcon’s head coach he compiled an impressive (115-35) overall record, and a (99-8) conference record. He is a three time CIAA coach of the year, and currently holds a record of 77 consecutive wins in conference play, going undefeated in his final three seasons. He is still the only CIAA coach to ever win an NCAA tournament 1st round game.

In three years at the helm of the Lady Rams of Winston Salem State University’s program, coach Poitier compiled a 43-50 record with a program that had won a total of 8 games in the previous 3 seasons. His teams lost in the semi-finals of the conference championships in each of his last two seasons. He played with the Bahamas Men’s National Team as a setter for 13 years from 1979, to 1992, and coached the Women’s Team for nine years from 1992 to 1999 when he left to take on the Falcon job. During his tenure as coach of the Bahamas Women’s Team, he led them to Two (2) Gold Medals, and Three (3) Silver Medals at the Regional Caribbean Volleyball Championships, then (CVC) now CAZOVA Championships.

The Bahamas Women will make their 8th appearance at those championships this summer since the departure of Coach Poitier, and is looking to capture their first medal of any kind since Poitier stepped down as the head coach.
