Scott Hall

The 2024 season will be Scott Hall's 14th leading the Bulldogs.

In 2023, Butler qualified for its third consecutive BIG EAST Tournament and its fifth in the most recent seven seasons. The team's 12 conference victories were the second most in BIG EAST competition since the Bulldogs joined the league in 2014. The 2023 team finished the season on several of Butler's all-time top-10 lists, including home runs (2nd-38), RBI (6th-182), runs (9th-197), and hits (9th-360).

In 2022, Hall led Butler to an overall record of 31-17 which included a school-record 16 wins in BIG EAST play, earning the Bulldogs second place in the final regular-season standings and the number two seed in the BIG EAST Tournament. Earlier in the season, on March 27, a win over Seton Hall made Hall the winningest coach in Butler Softball program history.

Hall led Butler to its best postseason performance just a few seasons ago. The 2016 team advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history after winning the BIG EAST Tournament title.

The 2016 Bulldogs finished the year with a 28-24 record. Butler's 9-7 record in BIG EAST play earned the team the No. 4 seed in the 2016 BIG EAST Tournament. In a miraculous run to the championship, Butler knocked off top-seeded DePaul in the semifinals and #3 seed St. John's in the championship game, allowing grand slams to the opposition in both contests only to come back to win the game.

Butler took the BIG EAST's automatic berth in the 2016 NCAA Tournament and was assigned to the Lexington Regional at the University of Kentucky. The Bulldogs dropped contests to the host Wildcats and Illinois in the program's first NCAA Tournament action.

In Butler's ten seasons as a member of the BIG EAST, the Bulldogs have qualified for the BIG EAST Tournament on five occasions: 2023, 2022, 2021, 2017, and 2016. (The 2020 season was canceled March 12 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.)

In 2014, the Bulldogs moved to the BIG EAST. Butler posted 24 wins in both 2014 and 2015, tying for fourth in the BIG EAST standings, but missing out on a trip to the conference tournament due to tiebreakers both seasons.

In his initial season with the Bulldogs, the 2011 team went 32-24 and set a school record for league wins with 14. The team's 14-8 league record clinched a third-place Horizon League finish while its 32 wins were the program's second-highest win total, just four shy of the record set by the 2010 team. In finishing second at the Horizon League Tournament, the Bulldogs' four tournament wins set a school record and tied the 2002 team for the best league finish.

In 2012, Hall guided the Bulldogs to 25 wins and a third-place finish at the Horizon League Tournament. In 2013, he led Butler to 22 wins, including 11 conference victories in the team's first and only season in the Atlantic 10 Conference.

One of the most successful high school coaches in Indiana, Hall was named head softball coach at Butler University prior to the 2011 season. He assumed the top position with the Bulldogs after spending 10 seasons as head softball coach at Pendleton Heights High School.

Hall, who also coached softball for two seasons at Shenandoah High School, boasts a 12-year high school coaching record of 285-87 (.793). He guided Pendleton Heights to four state finals’ appearances and led the Lady Arabians to state runner-up finishes in 2001 and 2005. He was named Indiana High School Softball Coach of the Year in 2005, and he guided Pendleton Heights to a “Top 25” national ranking in 2006.

Hall was inducted into the Indiana Coaches of Girls Sports Association (ICGSA) Hall of Fame as a member of the Class of 2021.

During his 12 high school seasons, Hall coached eight conference championship teams, eight sectional championship squads and four regional championship teams. He was named District Coach of the Year four times (2003, 2005, 2006 and 2007), conference Coach of the Year four times (2003, 2005, 2007 and 2008), Madison County Coach of the Year twice (2003 and 2008) and Ball State Alumni Association Coach of the Year twice (2007 and 2008). He received a Softball Service Award from the Indiana Coaches of Girls Sports Association in 2009. The Butler coach had 29 of his former players receive college softball scholarships, including 16 to Division I schools.

Hall has been active in the ICGSA and the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA). He hosted and assisted with numerous college, high school and youth camps and clinics, and he’s served as an instructor at several NCAA Division I softball camps. In 2009, he assisted Butler in hosting the Horizon League Softball Championship at Pendleton Heights High School.

Hall was a three-sport athlete at Shenandoah High School (1990-93). He earned his B.S. degree in secondary education from Ball State in 1999.

Mallory Winters

Mallory Winters spent three seasons assisting with the Lewis University softball program, helping lead the Flyers to a 63-50 overall record. In 2021, the team finished 16-12 in conference play and qualified for the Great Lakes Valley Conference tournament.

Prior to her stint at Lewis, Winters spent six years working with Next College Student-Athlete in Chicago. She primarily worked with club and high school coaches and student-athletes who were part of the college recruiting process.

Over that same time period, Winters also maintained a presence on the diamond. She served as an assistant coach with the OC Batbusters organization, working as an instructor with outfielders, catchers, and batters and, at the same time, overseeing recruiting for multiple teams.

Prior to joining the Batbusters, Winters spent four years as an assistant coach with the Illinois Vipers club program. As an assistant coach for the 16U/18U competitive softball team, her focus was practice plan development and drill implementation.

A former Butler Bulldog, Winters played for head coaches Jeanne Rayman and Scott Hall. The Arvada, Colo., native was a four-year starter at catcher, finishing her career with nine home runs, 12 doubles, and 54 RBI. She graduated cum laude in 2012 with a degree in electronic media.
