Jami Lind

Jami Lind will begin her 30th season as the head coach at FSCJ where she has compiled a 1154–479 won-loss record. That win total makes her the winningest junior college softball coach of all time as she surpassed Celeste Knierim of St. Louis Community College-Meramec who retired with 1041 wins. Those wins include qualifying for postseason play in 25 of her 29 seasons. That win total includes two state titles, including 2009’s remarkable run through the loser’s bracket at the State Tournament to the Championship and then the NJCAA National Tournament where the team finished fifth. During that stretch, FSCJ has been one of the top-ranked teams in the state of Florida every year and been ranked or recognized nationally in each of those seasons. Additionally, almost all of the team’s sophomores graduated, as is the norm at Florida State College. Players on the team typically have a team GPA of over 3.0 and put the most players in the state on the academic all-state team. Lind takes academics as seriously as athletics, and the team also participates in several community service projects each year. She was also inducted into the FCSAA Hall of Fame in 2011.

While still very competitive, Lind believes in developing her players into all around student–athletes, excelling in the classroom, the community and on the ball field. She is a strong believer in working hard on team chemistry and toward individual and team goals. While loving to win, she definitely defines success in more ways than the won–loss record, taking pride in the team’s graduation rate and the number of softball alumni currently playing at four-year schools, as well as those that have gone on and are working in different fields around the country.

Lind is a graduate of Flagler College in St. Augustine where she earned 12 letters in volleyball, basketball and softball during her playing career. In March 2004, she was inducted into the inaugural class for the Flagler College Athletic Hall of Fame. In her ASA and USSSA playing career, she was part of nine national championship teams in both women’s and coed softball, and named All American 19 times including two MVP awards at the National Tournament. Lind and her husband reside in St. Augustine.

Jay Redfern

Assistant Coach Jay Redfern starts his 15th season with the team. His primary duty is as pitching coach. Under his guidance, last year’s team once again had a top pitching staff with four different pitchers seeing significant time. Additionally, he is an excellent hitting coach and is involved with game day decisions as well. With his knowledge and ability to relate with the girls, he has become an integral part of the success that the FSCJ softball program enjoys.

He has developed most of the top pitchers in the Northeast Florida area, several of whom have or are currently pitching in college and several who are currently some of the top high school pitchers in the state.

Jay recently retired from his civil service job with the Navy. He is married to wife, Terri, a registered nurse, and has two children: Lauren, who played softball first at FSCJ then at JU, and is now a police officer in Jacksonville, and Justin, who lives in New York City.

Soccer in College gave me a good point of reference for perspective coaches, somewhere I could direct them to see all of my data, in a well-organized, efficient manner. It was a good tool for my recruiting efforts.
