Charissa Duncan

The Guilford College Athletic Department is pleased to announce that Charissa Duncan has been named the next head softball coach.

"I'm very pleased to again welcome Coach Charissa Duncan to Guilford Athletics," said Bill Foti, Director of Athletics. "As a former athlete, current coach and Guilford Alumnus, she brings a unique perspective to her new position as head coach. I'm confident that under her leadership, we will continue to expand upon the success we enjoyed last season."

Charissa Duncan joined the softball staff prior to the 2023 softball season and served as the pitching coach. Last season, Guilford finished 23-19 overall with a conference record of 11-9 and fell in the ODAC Tournament.

Duncan was a four-year utility player under Dennis Shores from 2006-10. She graduated with school standards for doubles, stolen bases while ranking among Quakers' all-time leaders in games played, runs scored and RBI. In 2010, she earned All-ODAC Honorable Mention, named Guilford's Best Female Athlete and the Richard Joyce Most Improved Athlete.

"I would like to thank Dennis Shores for giving me the opportunity to be a part of his coaching staff last season, and for allowing me the chance to pursue my passion at an institution that has always been home to me," said Charissa Duncan. "I would also like to thank Bill Foti, Ray Babnik, and the rest of the search committee for having the confidence in me to be the next head softball coach at Guilford College. I have big shoes to fill, but I am excited to start this new chapter with an amazing team and athletic department."

Prior to coming to campus, Duncan spent the past six years as the head coach at Jesse Carson High School in China Grove, N.C.

Soccer in College gave me a good point of reference for perspective coaches, somewhere I could direct them to see all of my data, in a well-organized, efficient manner. It was a good tool for my recruiting efforts.
