USF Ken Erikson Named USA Softball

Eriksen, Johns Named Head Coaches for USA Softball Women’s Program

 OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – The Amateur Softball Association (ASA) of America and USA Softball announced January 29th the selection of Ken Eriksen (University of South Florida, Tampa, Fla.) and Karen Johns (Whippany, N.J.) as the Head Coaches of the Women’s National Team and Junior Women’s National Team, respectively.  Eriksen has served as an assistant coach for many women’s teams including the 2004 Olympic Gold medal winning team in Athens while Johns was an assistant for the 2008 Olympic Silver medal winning team in Beijing.



Brazil Wins ISF Youth World Cup

Brazil knocked off South Florida Mini Bulls 3-2 in the Gold Medal Game Wednesday night at the Plant City Stadium.  All tied after 5 1/2 innings Brazil score what proved to be the winning run in the bottom of the sixth inning.  Both team played well and showed outstanding sportsmanship.  It was an outstanding tournament with 11 International Team and 11 ASA Teams from across the United States.  Florida had two of the Final Four Teams with the Oviedo Blaze finishing fourth after losing to Puerto Rico in the Bronze Medal Game, as the South Florida Mini Bulls finished second.  Also playing from Florida were the Orlando Flames, Wildfire, Quicksilver, and the Plant City Legends.  All represented Florida well at the Youth World Cup of Softball.
