Kim Scavone

Kim Scavone was named head coach of the Meredith College softball program in 2010. In October 2014 Scavone was inducted into the Boston College Varsity Club Hall of Fame.

During her ninth year as head coach, Scavone led a young 2019 Meredith softball team back to LaGrange, Ga., for the program's third consecutive USA South Tournament final round. The East Division sixth-seed Avenging Angels knocked off the top seed in a two-game sweep to advance beyond the divisional playoffs. Catcher Bryce Smith and rookie pitcher Sarah Gundlach represented MCSB on the All-East second team.

Scavone led the 2018 squad to a second-place finish in the USA South East Division. After winning the divisional playin series, the team returned to LaGrange, Ga., for the final round of the USA South Tournament, falling one game short of an appearance in the championship game. Nine members of the team received All-Conference honors, while Julia Allsbrook was named the 2018 Meredith College Dean Burris Student-Athlete of the Year.

The Softball Avenging Angels won the 2017 USA South East Division Championship and went on to win the divisional playoffs for a top seed in the league’s double-elimination tournament. Scavone collected her second USA South Coach of the Year honor as the team earned a program-best 28 wins. The team received six All-Conference honors, and Haley Ervin and Brittany Bucklin went on to receive All-Region recognition. Sarah Watson was awarded the athletics program's first-ever Dean Burris Student-Athlete of the Year honor for her leadership, sportsmanship, and service, while embodying the department's core values.

Meredith closed out the 2016 schedule with the regular season but still managed to set several new all-time College records. The talented young squad recorded the most home runs with 33, most hits with 333, hit the most doubles with 67, and turned 14 double plays to better the 2011 team by three.

The 2015 softball team set new Meredith records in batting average, slugging percentage, and on-base percentage. Amanda White wrapped up her four-year career atop the college's softball records in 11 categories and earned All-Region and All-Conference honors for her effort. A member of Scavone's first recruiting class at Meredith, White ended her career as the 2015 NCAA National Statistical Champion for Slugging Percentage, leading the country with .990.

Meredith finished the 2014 season ranked fifth in USA South standings and Amanda White collected the program's first USA South Player of the Year honor. Standout pitcher Amanda Beirne led all of NCAA Division III in strikeouts most of the season with her final national ranking as 16th.

During the 2013 campaign Meredith claimed a fourth-place regular season finish with a conference record of 13-8. Four Avenging Angels garnered All-Conference honors, including standout pitcher Amanda Beirne with a second team selection.

In just her second season at the helm, Scavone garnered the 2012 USA South Coach of the Year honors after leading her team to a 26-10 overall record. The 12-6 conference mark was good for a second-place tie in regular season league standings.

Scavone’s 2012 team raised the standard for Meredith softball with 27 wins, the most in school history with five athletes earning USA South All-Conference honors, the most Avenging Angel softball players to receive such recognition from the conference in a single season.

Scavone brings a wealth of experience to the Avenging Angels athletics program. She came to Meredith after serving as an assistant coach at Division I Fordham University. During Scavone’s tenure from 2003-2005, the Rams collected their first Atlantic 10 regular season title in 2005, as well as setting school records with 38 wins and 308 strikeouts.

Scavone helped guide the Fordham pitching staff to team records for earned run average, shutouts, and strikeouts, while making their second-straight Atlantic 10 tournament appearance. In addition to coaching softball at the collegiate level, Scavone played and coached professionally overseas for two seasons. As a player and coach for Giovane Porpetto in the Italian Federation Softball League, she helped Porpetto to a 20-8 overall record and first place in the A Division. Porpetto went on to defeat Rome in the Championship series. Scavone pitched 14 innings in that series allowing one hit, no earned runs, while striking out 22 batters, throwing a perfect game in Game three. Overall on the season, Scavone posted a record or 8-0, allowing just one earned run while striking out 91 batters. Her 0.13 earned run average lead the league.

Scavone was a four-year starter at Boston College from 2000-2003, while serving as team captain her junior and senior years. As a freshman, she garnered the 2000 Big East Rookie of the Year award, while also earning First Team All-Rookie and First Team All-Big East honors. Scavone capped off her career as the Big East Pitcher of the Year in 2003 and earned First Team All-Big East honors.

A 16-6 overall finish led Boston College to its first regular season title since 1998 and an NCAA Tournament berth. Scavone finished her career as the Big East career and single-season strikeout record holder. She was also a First Team Regional All-American in 2003. She received a Bachelor of Arts in English from Boston College.

A graduate of Bay Shore High School, Scavone received plenty of accolades with the Marauders as she was named the New York State Class A Player of the Year twice. She was also a two-time NFCA All-American, a two-time NFCA Academic All-American, and a three-time Fast Pitch Magazine All-American. In June 2012, Scavone was inducted into the New York State High School Softball Hall of Fame as a member of the charter class..
