Jimmy Buckner

Jimmy Buckner was officially announced as the new Softball Head Coach in a press conference on November 19, 2021.


A two-time graduate of Trevecca Nazarene University (Bachelor’s in human resources, Master’s in organizational leadership), Buckner spent his first 20 seasons patrolling the dugout as an assistant at Volunteer State in Gallatin, Tennessee. During his tenure, he helped the Pioneers to over 500 wins which included a 2011 NJCAA Region 7 Championship plus a NJCAA Tournament berth and subsequent #16 ranking in the country.


The Greenbrier, Tennessee native would accept the same position at Florida A&M in the summer/fall of 2019, getting only 20 games into his time with the Lady Rattlers before COVID-19 shut the sports world down. During the pandemic, he got a job with United Airlines until landing here in The Delta.


The avid Tennessee Titans football fan is married to his wife, Marsha, and has a 16-year-old son named Wesley.

Brittany Tillery

Brittany Tillery began her duties as an assistant coach for the Mississippi Valley State University softball program in November 2014.


During her first season on staff, she helped lead the Devilettes to the SWAC Tournament championship game. Three MVSU student-athletes were named All-SWAC and Deja Talton was tabbed Freshman of the Year.


Prior to landing at MVSU, Tillery served as the head softball coach at Germantown High School in Madison, Mississippi. She held this position from 2011-2013. Her duties included managing the softball budget, scheduling contests, game day operations and managing practices and conditioning. She was also an ABA Specialist at Germantown HS.


Tillery also served as an assistant softball coach at Madison Central High School in Madison, Mississippi, from 2009-2011.


Tillery, a Starkville, Miss. native who spent four years as a standout softball student-athlete at Delta State, became the first African-American to join the Delta State fast-pitch softball program in 2006.


While at DSU from 2005-09, Tillery was bestowed with a host of awards: All-Gulf South Conference, Daktronics All-Region and Charles S. Kerg Award winner.


Tillery earned her masters degree in sports administration from Mississippi Valley State University in 2018 and a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Sports Management from Delta State University in 2009 (May)
