Chris Steiner-Leak

Chris Steiner-Leak is coming to SUSCC from Brewbaker Tech Magnet School where she earned the distinction of 5A State Coach of the Year and a state championship last year. Prior to her tenure at Brewbaker Tech, Steiner-Leak served as head softball coach in the collegiate level, most recently serving as head coach at Florida International University.

From 2014-2019, she served as the head coach at Alabama State University. Under her leadership, the Hornets played for five conference championships, had three NCAA postseason appearances, including two at the NCAA National Tournament, and were 2-time SWAC Champions.

Steiner-Leak served as head coach at AUM from 2007-2014 and led her team to the 2014 NAIA National Championship. That year she was named the Southern States Athletic Conference Female Coach of the Year. She also held positions at Reinhardt College and several high schools throughout the state.

Throughout her 23-year coaching career, Steiner-Leak has amassed a career overall record of 673-395-2. She said she is eager to be at the college level again and to share her passion for the sport. “I am really excited to start this new chapter. I want to help these kids succeed and accomplish their goals. These two years are critical to shaping these young ladies and helping them develop and get ready for all life has to offer them. I appreciate the administration at SU for entrusting me to lead this program to the next level,” she said.

Steiner-Leak earned a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education from Auburn University. She was a member of the AU Softball team from 1995-1999, where she served as team captain, and was a member of the All-SEC Academic Team. She hit the

first home run in Auburn’s fastpitch program’s history. She and her husband, Jeremy, have three children, Easton 22, Auburn 20, and Rylee 15.
